Vision

Micah Community Resource Center

There are essentially no services in the NW quadrant of OKC for the unhoused.

Nearly all service providers are located downtown, or east or south in the larger metro area. There are many food pantries, but most of these do not carry the items uniquely needed by unhoused neighbors. There are service providers for low income families, and in some ways these services are able to prevent some neighbors from falling into homelessness. Poverty and lack of affordable housing continues to creep north and west of the downtown area. Everyone’s story that leads to homelessness is unique, and everyone’s solution to their homelessness is unique.

Our dream is to open a Micah Community Resource Center in NW OKC.

Micah and the NW Resource Center will be a part of the collaborative effort in the city to work with our unhoused neighbors. The center will provide office space for city service providers to work out of and meet with clients. For many reasons, unhoused neighbors may choose not to stay in the downtown area, so the center will assist many more in accessing services and moving toward a better future. In addition to service providers, we hope to offer day shelter service: a safe indoor place for rest and community, including meals, bathrooms and showers, laundromat, mailboxes, and personal storage.

We are making forward progress on this dream every day.

We have located a building to lease and are looking for funding. We are forming partnerships with the city’s service providers, as well as faith communities in the area. It will be a whole ‘Community Movement’ if we want to effectively assist our neighbors. We hope you will join us! Reach out to [email protected] if you have questions, ideas, financial contribution, partnerships or contacts to connect, or volunteer hours to donate.
